When and Where:

Early Morning Sunday August 2nd - Evening August 8th

Mainly in Forth Worth but we will journey in other places in/out of the Meteroplex.

Food:

Perhaps you have heard the commonly repeated fact that almost half the world lives on $2 a day. Well for one week we are going to try just that, except $4 a day. We are going to try and see the world through the eyes of a missionary. Now while we could certainly live that $2 fact literally (for them that fact applies to medical, housing, food, etc) for us we are going to try and have each person's food live off $4. While that sounds impossible it is not when we remember last year's "iWeak, WiiStrong". We will be dividing the entire group into Missionary "Families" that will be able to pool their money together. While $4 may not buy much, $28 will buy a nice lunch and dinner for a family of 7. Remember our main emphasis is finding ways to be a servant at home. So our teens will be forced to figure out how to budget as a family, how to shop at a grocery store everyday together, and how to later cook their food. Perhaps this will change how we see our Starbucks, our leftovers, and simple ways to be thankful for whatever mom puts on the table at home...let us plan, shop, and eat like a servant.

Lodging:

Every night we will be housed at the West Freeway Church of Christ. They have agreed to let us sleep in their church facilities. Not only will we be sleeping there but we will also be eating there. Every night our Middle School "Families" will be using their kitchen under the supervision of our adult chaperones. There our students will learn how to cook the food they selected earlier. We will also have to clean our rooms daily since there is no maid at this hotel or a super-mom. There will be separate sleeping quarters for both male and female, and while the teenagers will be sleeping in sleeping bags adults are welcome to bring an air mattress if they so choose....let us clean our rooms, cook our food, and sleep in rooms with the blessing of AC and electricity like a servant.

Saftey

Now of course there are other SURPRISES that will be included in our mission experience. From showering at local YMCAs, to serving by making sandwiches for homeless kids and adults at Fortress Church in downtown, to learning how to do lawn care at elderly homes, I wouldn’t want to ruin them all. But please know safety is something we try and do our best. With any mission trip there is no 100% guarantee with safety but I can say this: what we can control we make sure is 100% safe and what we can't control we leave in faith to our God and our prayer warriors like Janet Ritchie to interceded to God on our behalf. The best way to help make sure your child is not only safe physically but emotionally and spiritually is by helping them prepare for a servant attitude already at home. We are going to be asking them to live in their home not as a king or queen waited on by mom and dad but as a servant, and perhaps the best way you can help their mission trip be a safe experience is by helping them become a servant already.

We Need You:

In the past we have taken as many as 16 adults on our mission trips. We would love to have your help this year too. While you may be tempted to just pop in and out for a day since it is local I really ask that you treat this like the experience it is and be willing to commit for the entire time. The same goes for your child, please do not lessen their experience by pulling them in and out of the mission trip just because we are "close to home." Obviously we will always rather have "some than none at all," but we do ask you realize your experience does also affect others for the good and the bad. Sometimes you may not know 100% of everything that is going to happen, we ask that you do trust you will be given the essential details to help this also be a journey for you.  So if you are willing to journey as a FULL PARTICPANT, then sign up and journey with us on this upside down mission: FLIP!

Still Questions: ???

The biggest questions are usually about schedule. However it is impossible to put together a detailed schedule until we have a better estimated of our numbers.  Just take showers and cooking aspects alone is a big HOURLY difference between 30 people and 40 people.  For that reason we will not have a detailed schedule to give you until Registration closes July 2.  However, we have posted on the forms page last year’s schedule to give you an idea of how previous trips have been organized and what type of info you will be receiving.  If after reading this page and the other links and you still have questions please bring them with you to a parent meeting Wednesday night May 27th in the Teen Room, or email them to me ahead of time.  I pray you will responsibly decide whether or not to journey with us.  Blessings!
